New Competition Legislation

The Protection of Competition Law 13(I) of 2008 was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus on April 18, 2008, date upon which it entered into force. It repeals all previous relevant Laws, namely Laws 207/1989, 111/1999, 87(I)/2000 and 155(I)/2000, becoming the main legal instrument providing for the protection of competition on a national level. The concentrations legislation has remain intact in another piece of legislation.

Law 13(I)/2008 aligns the domestic competition law regime with the respective Community Law provisions to a further extent than preceding legislation. Specifically, section 3 of the Law is identical to the wording of Article 81(1) EC  [
