First Wind Park for Cyprus
The first wind park in Cyprus is underway and will be ready by the end of 2010. The contract for the connection of the first Wind Park, of a total power of 82MW, with the electricity transmission network in Cyprus was signed on July 19 between the transmission system operator of Cyprus and the producer.The construction part of the project, which is to be located in the district of Paphos, is to be undertaken by a Danish company. The park will consist of 41 wind turbines of 2,0 MW each, making it one of the largest in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Finance-wise it has been annouced that the European Investment Bank will contribute to the construction with 65 million euro.
Energy produced by the park will be channeled into the transmission network in accordance with the Grant Scheme of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and will be purchased by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus at the prices determined by the scheme.
